Animalintex is a world renowned, multi layered poultice and wound dressing. It is a veterinary licensed poultice on the market for the treatment of canine and equine wounds. Highly absorbent, it is extremely versatile and can be applied either as a wet, hot or cold poultice, or as a dry dressing, to suit the needs of the injury. It contains an antiseptic to clean and prevent re-infection and natural poulticing agent, Tragacanth, which, when it reacts with water, draws out any infection and creates a clean area for the wound to heal. When applied as a hot, wet poultice Animalintex® increases the blood supply to the injured area, providing more oxygen, and white blood cells, which fight infection. The improved blood flow reduces the swelling, whilst the warmth of the poultice relieves the animal of pain, providing comfort. Cold, wet poulticing can be refrigerated before application if necessary, and is recommended for use on sprains and strains, rather than on cuts. Use Animalintex® dry for pressure padding after a lot of hard work to prevent or relieve inflammation. It can also be applied directly to a wound as an absorbent dry dressing. Animalintex® is sold in a 41cm x 21cm dressing, which can be cut to the size and shape needed. Animalintex® is a must have item for any horse owner’s first-aid kit.

Description:

The all-purpose veterinary poultice dressing for use in horses and dogs (unsterile). Animalintex poultice pad can be used either as a hot wet poultice or a cold wet poultice, or as a dry wound dressing.

Ingredients:

Tragacanth 6.02g/pad, Boric Acid 2.08 g/pad.

Directions for Use:

General Preparations:

1. Gently clean mud and dirt from the application area.

2. Place the poultice pad with the plastic waterproof backing uppermost in a clean shallow container.

Hot Wet Poulticing:

1. Pour boiled water that has been allowed to cool to 38°C/100°F into the container around the edges of the poultice pad.

2. When the pad is saturated, take it out and gently squeeze out the excess water.

3. Place the poultice pad on the area with the plastic waterproof backing on the outside (away from the skin), molding the poultice pad to the contours of the area.

4. Hold in place with Vetrap bandaging tape, making sure the poultice pad is completely covered.

Cold Wet Poulticing:

1. Follow the General Preparations above, but use cool, potable water. Pour the water around the edges of the poultice pad.

2. When the pad is saturated, take it out and gently squeeze out the excess water.

3. Apply to the area cold with the plastic waterproof backing on the outside (away from the skin).

4. Hold in place with Vetrap bandaging tape, making sure the poultice pad is completely covered.

Wound Dressing:

1. Gently clean any mud or dirt from the application area.

2. Place the poultice pad on the area with the plastic waterproof backing on the outside (away from the skin).

3. Hold in place with Vetrap bandaging tape, making sure the poultice pad is completely covered.

Cautions:

Change the poultice pad at least once every 12 hours. For external use only. Wash hands before and after use. Do not apply too hot--when tested on the back of your hand it should feel comfortable to the touch. Ensure that the poultice pad is applied with the plastic waterproof backing away from the animal. Do not bandage too tightly. If the skin is broken, be sure to follow routine disease prevention and immunization procedures. All medicines should be kept out of reach of children. Not for use on horses intended for human consumption.
